Privacy Policy
Effective: November 1, 2026
Protecting your privacy matters to Musicalysis. This Privacy Policy describes how Musicalysis (“Musicalysis,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our websites and applications, including https://app.musicalysis.com and related features (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy together with our Terms of Service.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Account and profile
We collect information you provide when you register or update your account, such as name, email address, username (including Connect username where applicable), password or authentication tokens, country or region where you choose to provide it, and billing-related details processed by our payment providers.
1.2 Payment processing
Payments are processed by third-party processors (for example, Stripe). We receive limited payment metadata (such as subscription status, last four digits of a card where shown, and transaction IDs) but do not store full payment card numbers on our servers.
1.3 Usage, device, and technical data
We automatically collect information such as IP address, browser type, device identifiers, approximate location derived from IP, access times, pages or screens viewed, diagnostic logs, and cookies or similar technologies as described below. This helps us operate, secure, and improve the Service.
1.4 Uploaded, recorded, creative, and lesson-related content
Depending on features you enable, we may process audio from your microphone, browser-tab recordings, uploaded audio or video files, MIDI, scores, song charts, chord charts, lyrics, sheet music, music transcriptions, PDFs, images, course materials, educational content, practice data, and related metadata to provide upload, storage, playback, waveform rendering, transcription, analysis, collaboration, publishing, course, support, and history features. Vocal samples, recordings, and other media are collected only as described in-product and as you choose to submit or generate them.
We may process file names, file sizes, file types, duration, thumbnails, preview data, annotations, sharing settings, access logs, publication status, course associations, and other metadata related to your uploaded or generated content. We do not review all uploaded content, do not verify ownership of uploaded content, and do not guarantee the legality of user-uploaded content.
1.5 Connect, collaboration, chat, and safety
When you use Musicalysis Connect or similar features, we may process:
- Session identifiers, connection state, and sync-related technical data.
- Contact lists, invites, block lists, and connection history you store or sync through the Service.
- Chat messages and structured chat payloads (for example, meeting links) sent during an active session, as needed to deliver the feature and maintain logs for safety and abuse prevention.
- Safety reports you submit (category, description, identifiers for reported users or messages, and related context) so we can review incidents, contact you with a case reference, and meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We use data as described in Section 2 and share it only as described in Section 3.
2. How we use information
- Provide, personalize, and improve the Service and customer support.
- Host, store, process, transcode, analyze, preview, display, stream, transmit, and share content according to the features and settings you use.
- Process subscriptions, authenticate users, and prevent fraud or abuse.
- Operate real-time collaboration, chat, notifications, and related infrastructure (including WebSocket and API traffic).
- Review trust-and-safety reports, copyright and DMCA notices, counter-notifications, abuse reports, suspected policy violations, and security incidents; enforce our Terms; and comply with law.
- Send service-related emails (account, billing, security) and, where permitted, product updates.
- Analyze aggregated or de-identified usage to improve learning experiences.
3. How we share information
We may share information with service providers who assist us. Current categories and examples include:
- Hosting and delivery: Cloudflare (CDN, DNS, security) and Render (application hosting).
- Payments: Stripe (payment processing and billing metadata).
- Analytics: Google Analytics and PostHog (product and marketing analytics, subject to cookie consent).
- Advertising measurement: Meta Pixel and TikTok Pixel on the marketing site when you Accept all or allow advertising cookies.
- AI features: our AI Music Assistant provider processes prompts and related context you submit in-product to generate responses.
- Email and support: providers we use to send transactional email and handle support requests.
These providers may process data only to perform services for us and must protect it appropriately. We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security. If Musicalysis is involved in a merger or acquisition, information may be transferred subject to appropriate safeguards.
If you use sharing, publishing, course, public-profile, collaboration, or Connect features, your profile information, content, content metadata, comments, messages, and activity may be visible to the people or audience you choose, and may be processed so those features work. You are responsible for the information and content you choose to share or publish.
We may disclose account, content, metadata, contact, and activity information to copyright owners, their agents, law enforcement, courts, regulators, or other parties when we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to process DMCA notices or counter-notifications, investigate alleged infringement or abuse, enforce our Terms, protect rights and safety, respond to subpoenas, court orders, warrants, preservation requests, or other legal process, or comply with applicable law. DMCA counter-notifications may be forwarded to the original complaining party as required or permitted by copyright law.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, measure performance, and prevent abuse. On our marketing site, analytics cookies for Google Analytics and PostHog may run in the United States and similar regions after notice unless you choose Essential only in Choose cookies; advertising cookies (Meta and TikTok) require Accept all or an explicit advertising choice, and are blocked when you opt out of sale/sharing or enable Global Privacy Control. In the EU/UK/Brazil and when we cannot confidently determine your region, non-essential cookies stay off until you Accept all or save analytics/advertising choices. We do not send visitor IP addresses to third-party geolocation APIs for consent decisions. You can also control cookies through browser settings; disabling them may limit some features. See musicalysis.com/privacy/#cookies .
5. Children’s privacy (including COPPA)
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent as required by the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) and similar laws. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13 without proper consent, contact us at info@musicalysis.com and we will take steps to delete it promptly. Parents and guardians should supervise minors’ use of Connect, chat, and video features.
6. Security and retention
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures, including encryption in transit where appropriate, to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We retain data as long as needed to provide the Service, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Retention periods vary by data type (for example, billing records vs. ephemeral session logs).
Content you upload, record, create, or publish may remain stored while your account is active, while it is shared with others, or while needed for backup, recovery, security, fraud prevention, copyright enforcement, DMCA processing, legal compliance, audit, dispute resolution, or enforcement of our Terms. Removed or deleted content may persist for a limited time in backups or logs and may be retained longer where required or permitted by law, including when it is associated with a legal request, rights-holder complaint, safety report, or account dispute.
7. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA / CPRA (including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale or sharing). We do not sell personal information for money. Some advertising technologies on our marketing site may be treated as “sharing” under California law when enabled; you can opt out at musicalysis.com/privacy/do-not-sell , choose Essential-only cookies, or enable Global Privacy Control (GPC) in a supporting browser. We honor GPC signals as an opt-out of sale/sharing. To exercise other rights, email info@musicalysis.com . We may verify your request before responding. You may also have the right to appeal or complain to a data protection authority in your region. More detail: musicalysis.com/privacy .
8. International users
Musicalysis is based in the United States. If you access the Service from other countries, your information may be processed in the U.S. or other jurisdictions where we or our providers operate. We take steps designed to ensure appropriate safeguards where required by law.
9. Third-party links and embedded services
The Service may link to third-party sites or allow you to open video conferences on third-party platforms. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We encourage you to read them before sharing information.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version and revise the effective date. For material changes, we will provide additional notice as appropriate (for example, email or in-product message). Rules for subscription pricing, fees, and promotional offers (including when we may change or end them) are described in our Terms of Service.
